Suya named as an expression of the intake of breath “S-O-O” and exhale of “Y-A-A” that follows the initial taste of this exotic spicy kebab is from the heartland of Africa. This spicy delicacy which is very popular among the Hausa people of Northern Nigeria is also relished from the Sahel region of North Africa through the tropical savanna and down to the tropical equatorial rain forest the coastal West African region. Suya is also referred to as “Chinchinga” in Ghana or “Shukuya” in the francophone countries of Africa and it is usually made with beef skewed beef, chicken, or lamb and topped with its

own unique seasoning. It’s often served with ground pepper and onions. Suya has proven to be an extremely popular evening delicacy sold by many roadside vendors and restaurants. It can also be served as an appetizer or part of a main dish. Suya “spots”, as these popular roadside vendors are popularly referred to, foster social interaction among groups of friends!
